Memphis C. S. Lewis Society

Minutes for October 12, 1997

Steak and Ale -- Poplar Avenue

Present: Barry Anderson, Cyd Beets, Dennis Beets, Janet Cupo, Knick Knickerbocker, Sandi Knickerbocker, Andy McClung.

The meeting was opened by reading the Collect of the Day for Evening Prayer.

Barry Anderson served as moderator for the program. Dennis Beets presented the second part of a paper on the life of C. S. Lewis. The paper covered the events of Lewis' life from the completion of his education with "The Great Knock" until his death. Particular attention was given to his experience in WWI, his relationship with Mrs. Moore, his work at Oxford and Cambridge and his marriage to Joy Davidman. The paper was well written and informative.

It was noted that the recent change in Internet Domain name will need to be altered to avoid violation of copyright laws.

Dennis Beets reported on the progress of the society's newsletter, "The Unicorn's Horn." Subscriptions, which are set at $10.00 a year, will be handled by Barry Anderson.

The group discussed possible methods of increasing society membership.

The one year anniversary of the society will be celebrated at the November 9 meeting. The meeting will be held in the Brockwell Room of Memphis Theological Seminary and everyone is encouraged to bring a dessert for the fellowship time prior to the meeting. The discussion will focus on two essays by Lewis, "Myth Became Fact" (God in the Dock) and "The Funeral of a Great Myth" (Christian Reflections). Copies of the essays will be available at the meeting or from Dennis Beets.
